Can we interpolate additional audio, or should it be solely audio culled from the radio ads?
Creative BRIEF
We were thrilled with the results of our previous tagline RFB and have run the winning entries in our weekly advertisements in The ONION. Thanks!!
Now we're back for more creative genius.
I want to create funny yet tasteful videos that can tell our brand story and convey some diamond education at the same time. AND I do not want them to look like commercials. The best videos are entertaining and educational. Everyone hates commercials by now, right?
You are welcome to record new footage of course, but also feel free to use creative materials from:
1. Our archive of radio ads
2. Our diamond education tutorial videos
3. Stock footage (corbis.com, getty.com, everystockphoto.com) -- I consulted with these companies myself and they give permission to use their watermarked photos or video footage in your RFB for free. And If we choose your entry, we'll cover the costs of purchasing the rights and remove the watermarks.
There's no set length for the video, but around 30 seconds should be fine. You can take footage from here:

Please note: This is a follow-up to the RFB we ran a few months ago. Unfortunately, our favorite of the entries included copyrighted materials which were not for sale and so we weren't able to use the video. The other submissions did not fit our criteria. I apologize to those who entered said previous RFB. Hopefully this time around we've clarified exactly what we're looking for and we can help you create great work!
P.S. We are currently running a limerick contest on our own website and are offering a diamond pendant for the winning entry.
Mervis Diamond Importers, a Washington, DC jeweler specializing in diamond engagement rings has built a strong locally-recognized brand image as the South African diamond importer. Over the past 20+ years, we've maintained a heavy radio marketing campaign.
The purpose here is to do something fun and bring our branding from radio to the internet. The videos should be fun and tell our overall brand story of going straight to the mines in South Africa and hand-selecting only the best diamonds. We want to see creativity and encourage humor, but the videos must be tasteful and classy enough for a high end jewelry brand.
Our target market is the engagement ring market, men ages 24-34. With that said, our clientèle includes couples of all ages and so we can't offend anyone here.
Please also include in the video a shot or two of our retail stores.
Any questions can be sent to jmervis *at* mervisdiamond.com
Update: We will be looking to hire part time graphic designers and video producers for upcoming projects. If you like this RFB and want to help us with future endeavors, we can discuss contract positions after this RFB is completed.
Update 2:
I want to stress that the video should be entertaining and not come off as an advertisement. I want something that could go "viral"... Parody pop culture, include strange music, do something interesting. Check this out to learn more:

Houston, We have a Question...
Q&A for this creative brief
Can we interpolate additional audio, or should it be solely audio culled from the radio ads?
You can bring in any other audio you'd like. -Jon Mervis
Are there any remaining photographs or film negatives of Morris Mervis which could be posted? ~Much Thanks.
I'll have to find them and scan them in... I'll see what I can do, but work as if there are none.
Most of the images are all of Morris as an older man, which are less interesting than him starting out in diamonds.
Would it be possible to get just the VO tracks from the radio spots?
I'll post whatever I can later today.

any word as of yet regarding selections for this contest?
are they any closer to reaching a decision?
I heard from one of the Mervis' this morning and will be speaking with him this afternoon about their selection.
Gang- Mervis actually likes a couple of the submissions, however, the ones they like used file footage from Discovery or other big players, which makes the videos illegal to use for advertising purposes.
We are going to extend this campaign as they are happy with work in general. Please use watermarked/stock footage (if necessary) from a site that allows purchasing and if necessary Mervis will purchase the footage for the selected video.
Thanks!
Drew
when can a repost be expected
Someone from Mervis will update the RFB later today and we'll extend the deadline at that point...the extension will likely be a full 3 weeks. Check out their latest contest on their blog for a a limerick that could earn you a diamond pendant! www.mervisdiamond.com/blog
Thanks!
"...the video should be entertaining and not come off as an advertisement."
100% agreed. I'll start story-boarding immediately!
Just wondering if a decision has been reached...
Thank you!
